A New Type of Union

It all starts with the five values of Laborers 55: respect, cooperation, equality, justice, and accountability. It is a credo that extends beyond our members. We don’t sign agreements with employers. We have partners who employ our members. We believe that our union can contribute to solving community issues like job creation and retention, economic development, and strengthening the middle class.

Historically, unions have defined themselves by their jurisdictions, their work specialization. For Laborers 55, our jurisdiction is our community-centered relationships. As our economy evolves, and jobs and demographics shift, we need a union with the flexibility and the forethought to address emerging issues.
